One More Thing Healthcare Did Not Accomplish

We have been pretty disappointed here for most of the heatlhcare debate. I mean, we lost single-payer before sitting down to bargain, and now barring a Christmas miracle from sixty or so House members we have lost the public option while being mandated to buy coverage. Folks like myself with a pre-existing condition in my case Type 1 Diabetes can still be discriminated against for five long years. Now in retrospect we lost another battle that shows nicely just how bought and paid for our Congress really is.

  1. #1    Since I don't watch Tv I missed much of the meaning here, but advertizing is a huge part of the cost of brand-named drugs.
As for that pre-existing condition? The Senate bill kicks in with regulation next year preventing denial over PreExCond, preventing "Lifetime Limits" and Recision, preventing price discrimination over gender and age. If that survives Conference, you should have a much easier time next year.
And if you have a community health clinic in your neck of the woods, they should be staffing up. If not, you may be getting one soon, you can thank Bernie Sanders for that.

  2. #2    We have one here. It usually takes about 18 hrs total to go, wait to be seen, be treated and get home. I will pass.

  3. #3    @#1 - Dimofacsist astroturfer CwV is lying again.

    1) Although the health mafia will not be able to deny coverage - i.e. accepting your money - they will still be able to deny treatment if you forgot to declare that pimple you had when you were six months old.
    2) There are still lifetime limits. The ban on lifetime limits was replaced by a meaningless ban on "unreasonable" (undefined) lifetime limits.
    3) There is still price discrimination on age and on health condition. RDemocrat will be paying a fortune for his junk insurance.

So what's the Dimofascist solution to health care in the age of Big Zero? See #1's last sentence. Don't bother wasting your time trying to get any treatment paid for by the health mafia. Pay your premiums - they'll only be double what they are now - and then go to your local volunteer community health clinic and wait in line for 18 hours.

  4. #4    I guess that CwV hasn't seen the Daily Kos post which cited the specific language in the Senate bill which allows for the very discrimination we're told isn't going to happen.

I couldn't find that specific link (maybe someone else knows where it is) , but here's one about the alleged ban on lifetime caps: http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2009/12/11/813174/-HUGE-Loophole-In-Senate-Bill-Allows-Annual-Lifetime-Limits!
