Senate report: Bin Laden was 'within our grasp

Osama bin Laden was unquestionably within reach of U.S. troops in the mountains of Tora Bora when American military leaders made the crucial and costly decision not to pursue the terrorist leader with massive force, a Senate report says.

  1. #1    Just for the record - No Shit.

And Tora Bora wasn’t the first time. Here, refresh your memory:

Well, the Senate is finally waking up? Really?

  2. #2    If they had caught him in Tora Bora, the reason for continued war would have evaporated. It would have actually been "mission accomplished," and the Americans would have had to leave. Bin Laden had to get away so the war could continue.

  3. #3    If Bush-Cheney caught OBL, they would have to invent a new bogeyman. We need one of those to justify giving billions to the military contractor cronies

  4. #4    I think you've hit the nail on the head, Kevin3g. How could Bush justify an invasion of Iraq if the leader of the September 11th plot, Bin Laden, was captured and his organization smashed?

  5. #5    Prima Facie evidence of WAR CRIMES- if they'd of caught him, we'd have to have ended the war. How many civilians have we killed w/ drones and cruise missiles but failed to kill the target based on tenuous evidence? If there was even a 50/50 chance we thought a "terrorist" was hiding out somewhere it was all systems go, right? There is NO possible reason other than they WANTED Bin Laden to escape. Vincent Bugliosi, back me up on this one?

  6. #6    OK, I'll put on the TinFoil Hat.
If they had caught OBL, they would have had to kill him to prevent him exposing that he worked for them. And it would have been real inconvenient for the Bushes with their Saudi friends, killing one of their kids that they'd hired.
Bin Laden is/was a contractor. His cousin was GW Bush's investor/white knight on an Oil Company that he mismanaged so badly, it went belly up.

  7. #7    Fear not, folks.
Have faith that our beloved Obama will surely prosecute the bush/cheney duo for high crimes against humanity if he hasn't already done so, Yoo betcha! Although... Mr. Obama does sometimes has an irrational phobia against looking backwards...? I think it's called the Anti-Sodomite Syndrome... or mebbe the Lot's Wife Sodomized Phobia.

And as far as prosecuting Bush/Cheney, Legal action from Holland to Pakistan will eventually force his hand. It looks like we will soon sign on to the International Criminal Court. It's almost guaranteed that Bush, Cheney, Rummy and Rice will be indicted there and that there will be an international call for extradition, trial in absentia and convictions relayed to US. Obama will be faced with a choice at that point, live up to our treaties and International Justice or go rogue.
