Amy Goodman Detained in Canada and Questioned About 2010 Olympics

"Well, it’s official. Suspicion of criticizing the 2010 Olympics gets you on a watch list at the Canadian border. Want to come to Canada and discuss the environmental shame that is the tar sands? Go ahead. Want to meddle in Canadian military policy in Afghanistan? Fill your boots. Want to criticize the Government’s position on Global Warming? Whatever, dude."

  1. #1    Pretty lame excuse for a police state, eh? Olympics are sacred. And I don't want to hear anyone criticizing the Montreal Canadians either.

  2. #2    Police State. Simple as that. And no, fascist, there's nothing lame about a police state.

  3. #3    You should spend some time in Canada, epppie, you would see what I'm talking about. Experience Canadian Border Patrol, then compare it to our Thousands Standing Around (TSA).

If it's a police state, it's a lame one. I'll admit, Harper was a step in the wrong direction, but the Canadian definition of liberalism is so far to the left of ours that most Americans wouldn't know what to do with it.

  4. #4    I would be more interested in why she was flagged. Where did the information come from? (Most likely some kind of "Watch List" originating from the U.S.) Who set the policy? Canadian border guards are federal civil servants and do not act on their own. I AM surprised that she didn't know she needed a Visa. It was the U.S. that made that a requirement.

  5. #5    The prime minister, Harper, and the premier of BC, Campbell, are both cut from the same cloth as Bush.
Protest signs or gatherings are not to been seen or photographed. Government behind closed doors, you have had eight years experience, you know the drill.
