The bishop of Rhode Island has barred Patrick Kennedy from receiving communion because of Kennedy's criticism of the church for threatening to oppose health care reform if the anti-abortion language doesnt suit them.

  1. #1    Kennedy should publicly walk away from the Church.
Catholicism is fading in this country, they need him more than he needs them.
And this:"The Catholic Conference of Bishops, has a large lobbying effort in Washington staffed by 350 people whose sole job is to influence legislation <snip> the church should be given a choice -- give up tax exempt status or give up lobbying."
    Right on.

  4. #4    Why aren't they excommunicating lawmakers who don't support universal health care? All the concern is for the fetus, but once born, you're on your own kiddo. Its perfectly okay with the Church if lawmakers are against newborn babies having access to health care, they only have interest in safeguarding human life before its born. Once born, the Church apparently doesn't care about children unless they're molesting them.

  5. #5    kevin3g, very well said! The Catholic Church should follow the example of Anthony Quinn in the Shoes of the Fisherman. I could tell you, but for those who haven't seen the movie, I don't want to spoil it.

  7. #7    kevin, You could add why doesn't the Church excomunicate people that support wars? Or the Death Penalty.
It's not about life, just about power.
Just for a mind exercise, every time you go by a church, say to yourself, "Tax Exempt". How many times in your daily commute? How many times in a trip downtown?

  8. #8    The bishop of Rhode Island can take his communion host, and stick it where the sun does not shine...

  11. #11    the catholic church is on the down side of history. Just up the road in North Attleboro, Ma., St. Marys church the Bishops hid the 1960s sexual abuse of parish children by Father Porter and his assistant, Father Aninziono (sp). Father Aninzinono walked in on Porter molesting a child and responded by closing the door and saying nothing. For his silence he was made a monsignor. The church has a directive abou 'unjust' war, for which the Iraq Bush invasion was in clean violation but the church stood by and cheerleadered the death and destruction that the unjust war unleased upon Iraq and the American people. As far as I am concerned the church can go to HELL!
