Professional incompetence and the making of a terrorist By Charlie Law

As with most things, the path that led Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan to allegedly stage an attack on his fellow servicemen and -women at Fort Hood was complex. No doubt his minority status had something to do with it, although an awful lot of adherents of minority religions get along just fine in the U.S. military. Beyond all this identity stuff, however, it looks as if Hasan had a clear history of professional incompetence. It's easy to imagine someone with minimal proficiency in his profession shifting blame for his incompetence to the system that employs him. The vast majority of Arab-Americans and American Muslims are quick to acknowledge their gratitude to a society that, while far from perfect, has offered them an equal shot at life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Let's not write off the tragic case of Nidal Hasan as Y.A.M.T. (Yet Another Muslim Terrorist).

  1. #1    With all the attempts to shift blame on to political correctness, an invention of the Democrats, according to the opposition, it's good to see someone spot this Ft Hood shooting for what it is -- one person of a growing population that has gone from sociopathic to psychopathic, to psychotic. The people have been driven into fear for so long that for some this is normality...and the way to combat it is through expression of that very poor reality -- anger. And some people are incited to physical violence by all this. We have about a quarter of the US population who are either either controlled by or who act like fear-biting dogs. Cheney is a good example -- he was so scared he resided in an undisclosed place for most of his tenure. And his solution to the fearful situation in the world is to bite -- in his case, to bomb, to destroy.

  2. #2    And this whole "pc is to blame"thing might just be an attempt to deflect the coming gun control debate, spurred on by th recent rash of shootings and the raised threat of more shooting -- as can be seen in the threats to Obama. I saw a headline that said (paraphrased) "Political Correctness killed the people at Fort Hood." No. A person with a gun killed those people. In fact, a cop-killer handgun was one of the weapons. Gun control is comin' again -- and then those gun nuts who say the "..out of my cold dead hands" thing will become crazier than even at the threat of taking there guns away. More violence. Enough..

  3. #3    Maybe also the troops and their children are watching too many video games. You know how that stuff can get into one's head and destroy their thinking. We shouldn't blame the real creeps here. The ones that didn't listen to this man when he told them he did not want to be deployed. The ones like McChrystal that are truly psychotic.

We don't want to think that this poor guy could have been setup, since we have no idea who or where the "other suspects" went.

Yeah, its gotta be gun control. It's gotta be something. But it definitely could not be this administration and its military policies. Oh no! Then we would have to admit that we voted for the wrong person, AGAIN!!!!!

  4. #4    Yeah, well I'm the one that went off topic into gun control, so I asked for it. Closer to the real causes of a psychotic break of a military person is probably military policy -- by anyone. All war is psychotic, involves psychotic actions, breeds psychosis. To me, there is no just war -- war simply does not work to produce any lasting good effects. How could it? Any transgression from the proscription against killing contributes to the wanton, meaningless murders that occur. If a killing is justified by anyone, be it government or individual, it sets the precedent for anyone to kill if they simply justify it -- like states and governments have been doing forever. As for Obama, he is working to change the mindset on such things as war. Change has to come from the people, for Obama. We the People have to back up these positive goals for him, for any official, to overcome the influence the entrenched corporate powers who thrive on disaster, war, and death. Please help.

  5. #5    There are a lot of people like yourself, Rick that have good intentions. This is why I understand that you have another road to travel then I do. I cannot fault you for that. But I can for asking me to support a crook which I cannot and will not do. I will do everything in my power, instead to expose this man for the fraud that he is. Send him to the wingnut community where he belongs.

With no pun-intended here, we got the dark-side of Bush AGAIN. And frankly I have had ENOUGH!
