Murdoch could block Google searches entirely

Rupert Murdoch says he will remove stories from Google's search index as a way to encourage people to pay for content online. In recent months, Murdoch his lieutenants have stepped up their war of words with Google, accusing it of "kleptomania" and acting as a "parasite" for including News Corp content in its Google News pages. But asked why News Corp executives had not chosen to simply remove their websites entirely from Google's search indexes – a simple technical operation – Murdoch said just such a move was on the cards.Murdoch added that he did not agree with the idea that search engines fell under "fair use" rules - an argument many aggregator websites use as part of their legal justification for reproducing excerpts of news stories online."There's a doctrine called fair use, which we believe to be challenged in the courts and would bar it altogether... but we'll take that slowly."

  1. #1    The fewer people having access to Murdoch's propaganda outlets, the better. How about blocking FAUX NOISE from all of the cable TV operators while you're at it, pig?

  2. #2    Murdoch has lost the plot. He's trying to turn back time. His notion to make people pay for content online is bound to fail.

  3. #3    This is great news. He's reducing the leads in to his propaganda empire. If he thinks that the millions of people that read his rags online are going to pay for that crap, he's fooling himself.
NYT tried it, it cut their virtual circulation so badly they abandoned the greenwall.

  5. #5    Newscorp lost 2 billion last year. Their 170 newspapers worldwide, all of which are losing circulation and advertising revenue, continue to be a drag on earnings. Fox movies, also owned by newscorp, had a megahit in the animated feature,"Ice Age 3," which became the 14th top grossing films of all-time, with 882 million worldwide, last Summer. Otherwise, its movie business would have been down.
Fox television continues to do well to offset the loses, with the "Simpsons" and "Family Guy" still earning nicely. However, it is really the single show "American Idol" which keeps Murdoch's News Corp empire afloat. Only if it sinks will News Corp be in trouble.
