Sobering Numbers in the House Healthcare "Victory"

While many were celebrating the historical nature of the House vote there are also reasons for real Democrats to temper celebration. Of course, we all know the ripping the House version, which actually did include some good things will get in the "House of Lords" we all know as the U.S. Senate. Of course, we know that we actually have a paltry majority in the Senate or quite possibly still a Republican majority, but the House Healthcare vote should give us a sobering reminder of just how small of a majority we have in the House.

  1. #1    you're confusing Democrats with Progressives, RD. In the current political climate, all Progressives (essentially) are Democrats but not all Democrats are Progressives. But, I do like your point. There are a lot of regressives wearing Democratic Party clothes.

  2. #2    I am intentionally confusing them. I believe that the Democratic Party is supposed to be a Progressive Party and was founded on that principle. There needs to be a purging either them from us or us from them and a real Progressive Party needs to emerge either withing or without the Democratic Party. When can leave all those others kissing each others butts. I guess I just dream...

  4. #4    Of the 57 Dems who signed a letter in July stating that they could not support a "public option" as weak as the one in this bill, only 2 honored their pledge: Dennis Kucinich and Eric Massa.

And that doesn't even take into account the hideous Stupak amendment, which 59 Dems voted for.

" I believe that the Democratic Party is supposed to be a Progressive Party and was founded on that principle."

History doesn't back you up, RD. Jefferson's Democratic-Republican Party -- the opposition to the monstrous police-state imperial-executive Federalists of Adams, Hamilton, et al -- was replaced by Jackson's pro-slavery, genocidal, Supreme Court order-defying Democratic Par...

  5. #5    Numbers for Democrats to watch: 0, 2010. Because, 2010 is the year in which Democrats will receive ZERO SUPPORT, if because of their leadership we get a CEO Wealth Insurance Mandate and nothing good for it.

  6. #6    well said, Nasrudin! Don't forget even CHAMPION "Progressives".... could be RADICAL REACTIONAIRIES, too! Remmeber the ol' "Scopes 'monkey trial'?"
Well, William Jennings Bryan was considered a champion "Progressive" and populist of his era.. and he joined THE PROSECUTION trying to criminalize school teacher John Thomas Scopes teaching Darwin's evolution theories in Tenn. schools.

  8. #8    What I Don't understand is Where Is The Anger from the public? Do they just not care? Doesn't it bother them that we were robbed of trillions in giveaways and a select few are just being handed our hard earned money? Has half the population just given up? I just find myself saying WHAT THE FUCK day after day. I'm not giving up but I'm getting sick and tired of just a small percentage of us carrying there lazy asses.

  10. #10    OK, I should have said "working class" party instead of Progressives as the ideal our party was founded on. Progressives did come around later. Sorry.
