Community organizers are either villains or saints depending on who you listen to while union organizers are described in anti-union propaganda as thugs coercing workers to sign union cards as an easy get rich scheme for fat cat union bosses in Washington. In fact the typical union organizer, in my experience, is a young person who like the typical community organizer is a disciplined idealist who believes that sound organizing principles grow movements and bring change. By that standard Jesus was an organizer. Jesus built a movement following principles fundamental to today’s organizers:

Jesus Camp is a 2006 documentary directed by Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing about a Pentecostal/charismatic summer camp for children who spend their summers learning and practicing their "prophetic gifts" and being taught that they can "take back America for Christ." According to the distributor, it "doesn't come with any prepackaged point of view" and tries to be "an honest and impartial depiction of one faction of the evangelical Christian community”. Palin's churches are actively involved in a resurgent movement that was declared heretical by the Assemblies of God in 1949. This is the same 'Spiritual Warfare' movement that was featured in the award winning movie, "Jesus Camp," which showed young children being trained to do battle for the Lord.

Sarah Palin derided Barack Obama for being a Community Organizer, evidently forgetting that from childhood she had been taught about the virtures of Jesus being a community organizer. She also forgot that Ponius Pilate was a Governor.

The religious right frequently adopts inconsistent positions. The latest is a plan to defy the IRS code that requires churches to forego making partisan political endorsements if they want to maintain their tax exempt status. I guess they want their cake and eat it too.

Let us not forget how Hitler used youth indoctrination to accomplish his transformation of Germany from a power house Democracy to a Totalitarian Regime. He did it using the children. Hitler youth organizations began recruiting in 1922, by 1935 (twenty three years later, one entire generation of youth) Hitler had embroiled 60% of the youth in Germany. Isn't this all just a little history repeating itself, are we powerless to stop the coming slaughter of innocents?
