Bruce, the explanation I got for the high STD rates in the bible belt is that the devil visits them more often, because he knows that the American South is more holy than the rest of the world.

Higher STD rates, higher teen pregnancy rates, higher rate of drug abuse, higher divorce rate.....I guess its all part of the special divine protection that southerners enjoy becuase they're closer to God.

I don't know if I mentioned this before, but here's a good one for you. Some of the kids who attended the local public high school where we lived in the south had been taught in church that dinosaurs never really existed, and that dinosaur skeletons had been made and buried in various places around the world by the devil, to try to confuse believers.

Last week, the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency raided a meatpacking plant in Postville, Iowa, and arrested and detained at least 300 undocumented immigrants but as many as 700.
Workers at the Agriprocessor meatpacking plant were slaving away under extremely oppressive conditions — in March 2008, the plant was cited with 39 violations of workplace health and safety laws.
But rather than step in and twist the hand of the corporation to clean up its act, raise and enforce a minimum wage and provide good public schools and affordable healthcare — the kinds of things Agriprocessor’s workers and everyone in the struggling town of Postville really needs — government agents came with guns and handcuffs to terrorize the workers.
(Any close-minded nativists who would argue that undocumented immigrants are the real criminals in Postville should kindly explain when pursuing the American dream became a crime.)

There is no simple solution to these problems, though ending patent-based marketing monopolies would transform pharmaceutical marketing practices and likely eliminate most abuses.
In the meantime, a ban on Pharma gifts to doctors would be a modest step forward. In the United States, notes Petersen, “radio disc jockeys can’t take cash from music companies. But when it comes to something like medicines — which mean life or death for people — doctors can take as much money as they want from the drug companies. We need a law to stop that.”

The last time this happened was back in 2004. There were ballots all around the country, for people to have their say on who can marry who. I am convinced this was an undercover ploy by ROVE et el to get the ignorant rednecks out in numbers to vote. This is how we got a second bush term. Now it is happening again. If these ballot initiatives pop up all around the country, we will have a high redneck count at the polls & McCain will be inaugurated. That's a load of bull, in my opinion. Obama can't just get off the hook by saying 'I wasn't involved with that report'. If it came out of his committee, he should have been involved, at least in denouncing it.

Also, one can't point out enough that Obama campaigned for Lieberman. So every bit of crap Lieberman gives them, they literally asked for. And no, a relatively empty gesture of support after the primary (towards Lamont) doesn't balance out actively campaigning before the primary (for Lieberman), especially when one considers Obama's supposedly strong stand on the war and on grassroots power.

Also, Collins' role points up the folly of putting any trust at all in "moderate" Pubs, and (incredibly) that includes something like a third of Dems!!!! My Blue Dog Rep., Baron Hill, actually supports the insane notion that the President ought to have the right to attack other countries without Congress' Declaration of War! And so does Obama, who thinks that it might be ok to just lob some missles into Pakistan, under the blessing and rubric of "actionable intelligence".

Saudi Arabia probably could increase production in the short term. But why would they? If they increase production by 5%, it would likely decrease world price by 20%. 8MM barrels at $125/barrel brings the Saudis a lot more revenue than 8.5MM barrels at $100/barrel.

Bush, idiot-servant of the oil companies, has the same real motivations as the Saudis. The huge profits being reaped by the big oil companies are the result of high crude oil prices (not, high gasoline prices). His concern about the effects of high oil prices on working class and middle class Americans is laughable.

I also remember hearing that the Saudis already have a problem with damage to the geologic structures of their oil fields caused by over-production, which will reduce the totals recoverable. Well, he has a grip on the problem, mostly. This vid doesn't cover it, but his solutions to the problems are off the map, way, way, off the map.
I don't know if RPaul is as anti-semitic as his followers seem to be, but this vid is a perfect example. Note when and where the Star of David appears.
We seem to be getting a flood of RP propaganda recently. It's harmless, I guess, but kind of a waste of bandwidth, the best we can hope for in his regard, is that he'll disrupt the R's convention. He has less of a chance and less street appeal than McBoom Boom. I just wish that his followers would take a careful look at his agenda and understand what would result from implementing it.

I don't know if it was set up, but it certainly was on his mind and he put it out to the largest, meanest group of gun-owners there is as a suggestion.
The rest of what he said is almost as shocking. He's saying the the Republicans will reduce govenment's impact on people when it's been the Republican misAdministrations that have expanded the size of government and increased by orders of magnitude, government's intrusion into our lives, DHS, NSA snooping, data mining.....
Give me back the "Tax-and-Spend" Democrats, the ones that believe that government is constructed to help those who need help most, not to pamper the rich and keep the rest of US in serfdom.
