The first half of your summary is right on. The rest is bullshit. Political demographics ARE NOT GOING TO STAY THE SAME!!! I know that sounds like some really whacko idea, from waaay out in left field, but people are already sick of the dems and ready for a different answer, and if progressives don't provide that answer - as it is now absolutely clear that they will not, since they have no political courage at all, none - Palin and her ilk will provide it.

The Pubs will sweep in 2010 and Palin will take us all the way to HitlerVille in 2012.

UNLESS the progressives find their spines. But let's face it, it's way too late for that. Our hope was to hold Obama to a tough progressive line early and we didn't just a little bit refuse. We TOTALLY AND UTTERLY REFUSED. There are no words in the english language that don't have sexual/scatological connotation for what Obama and the New Dems did to us, but perhaps Radiant Shower might work?

Contrary to the conventional wisdom, when China drops the peg, the immediate benefits will flow to the Chinese, not to Americans. Yes, prices for Chinese goods will rise in the United States â€" but so will prices for domestic goods. As a corollary, the Chinese will see falling prices across the board. As anyone who has ever been shopping can explain, low prices are a good thing.

In addition, credit will expand in China while it contracts here. When China abandons the peg, it will no longer need to swell its currency reserves by buying Treasuries or other dollar-denominated debt instruments. Other nations will no longer feel the pressure to keep their currencies from rising, so they too could throttle down on their onerous dollar purchases.

As demand falls for both dollars and Treasuries, prices and interest rates in the United States will rise. Rising rates will restrict the flow of credit that is currently financing government and consumer spending. This change will finally force a long overdue decline in borrowing. So, not only will Americans lose access to the consumer credit that funds their current spending, but the things they buy will also get more expensive.

As the rest of the world gets distracted by all this chatter about The Past, our President gallantly protects us from such divisive unpleasantries by aggressively blocking any war crimes investigations and concealing evidence -- even modifying decades-old transparency laws to do so if necessary. Even more inspiring, our patriotic media enthusiastically plays a crucial helping role; The Washington Post has known since 2005 in exactly which countries the CIA maintained its illegal, secret prisons but still refuses to say, even though they've now been banned by Executive Order and even though Lithuania and Poland are launching investigations which the Post could easily answer, but chooses not to.

As for American democracy, I think it likely that the elections of 2010 and 2012 will mark continuations and indeed extensions of the pattern from 2006 and 2008. The condition of the country sucks. People want change. But, unless something dramatic happens, they continue to only have two choices - the party in power, or the other party. In 2010 and 2012 the incumbents will be the pathetic Democrats, and the only real alternative will be the just recently comatose Republicans, newly revived courtesy of Barack Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.

Since we can expect the GOP monsters to win those elections handily under such conditions, the question becomes, what will that party stand for, and who will represent it? Here, the signs are especially bad. From New York to Florida to Alaska to all across the radio dial, the GOP is doing the impossible these days. It is actually becoming more regressive, more repressive, more narrow, more stupid, more greedy and more vicious. It's hard to imagine they could surpass their current personal bests in the pathology decathlon, but indeed they are.

Meanwhile, my guess is that the winner of the GOP nomination in 2012 will be the winner of the presidency that fall, just as the real contest in 2008 was to win the Democratic nomination.

My guess is that that person is now running around the country plugging her book.

And my guess is that the next go-round of Reaganism/Bushism will make the last one look like a friendly game of gin rummy by comparison.

They will almost certainly have to pull the plug on any remaining vestige of democracy at that point, since their policies will be utterly useless in addressing people's mounting concerns and their growing impatience.

Get your passport renewed.

Mexico might be a good alternative. The weather is nice and warm.

And, evidently, the money is good. At least compared to what the very sick Uncle Sam's got going on his hospital ward.

Here's one more indicative (and quite real) headline to add to the list above. No offense to my amigos south of the border, but you can file this puppy under "Y", for "You Know The Show Is Over When..."

And if you did not think you had enough "sinister" there. Then continue to watch him tap dance the people (like you and I) who can't afford this economy already, watch him bring this economy down. We have gone through one financial coup, it appears there may be another one heading for us.

And if that is not sinister enough. Watch what happens after everything in Bush's laws (The Patriot Act I and II, The Military Commissions Act, and the John Warner Defense Authorization Act are all in place. Watch where we will be then.

This is so very sad for me to watch along with the many others that have gone off to war for this country. It sickens me to watch America be torn up by the predators, but that is EXACTLY what is happening. And you are right. "There is no way this can be stupidity" b/c it was carefully planned several decades ago. Actually even more than that. It is just that now that Americans have been dumbed down enough, and Bush was enabled to discover how much, so that now these crooks and con-men have been enabled by the lies, deception, corruption, disinformation, misinformation, and propaganda they , in turn, are placing into practice to bring this country to its knees.

How some people in this group can continue to make excuses for the evil manipulative wrong-doing these people have done to Americans both at home and abroad, and call is for our security, is beyond me. Even Jesus threw the money-changers out of the temple.

And am I angry about these events as they occur. You better believe it. To watch my country stolen right before my eyes is a heart breaker!!! And I thought 911 was awful. There is no comparison here.

Trickle DOWN theory is bullshit! What really happens is TRICKLE OUT ...to offshore tax havens et al. The money that MIGHT HAVE BEEN invested had it not TRICKLED OUT might turn the country around if AT LEAST some of it TRICKLED BACK IN. I am sure it would be welcome.
